You are cordially invited to submit a proposal for the 2023 Korean-American Educational Researchers Association (KAERA; https://www.k-aera.org) Conference, which will be held on April 13, 2023 in Chicago, IL. The mission of the KAERA is to promote intellectual dialogues among scholars in broadly defined education disciplines through research that examines critical issues of the fields and offers implications for education practice and policies.
The theme for the 2023 KAERA conference is “Reimagining Education Research for Sustained Practice to Challenge Inequity in the Korean and Korean Diaspora Contexts.” The conference will consist of keynote speeches, mentoring sessions, and round-table research presentations. We want to highlight that roundtable sessions in the 2023 conference will feature detailed feedback from discussants. We welcome proposals for both individual papers and work-in-progress research. Proposals that have not been published are eligible.
All proposals will be reviewed by at least two reviewers and discussants with expertise in topics will provide constructive feedback on each proposal. We highly encourage graduate students, along with other researchers, to consider submitting their scholarly work for feedback from the discussants. Presentations can be delivered in languages (i.e., English and/or Korean) chosen by presenters.
The conference is open to all education researchers regardless of nationality, country of origin, or specific subfields of education. KAERA welcomes research proposals that cover an array of topics that meet the broad needs and research interests of KAERA members and other education researchers.
A proposal between 750 and 1,000 words (excluding abstract, references, figures and tables) in length will be considered for presentations. It should include (1) an abstract (less than 100 words) and keywords, (2) objectives or purposes, (3) perspective(s) or theoretical framework, (4) methods, (5) results/preliminary results, and (6) implications or significance.
A proposal must be submitted through the link by January 14, 2023, 11:59 pm PST. Please note that you will need a Google account to submit your proposal. A result notification email will be sent out by February 13, 2023. If your proposal is accepted, you will be asked to submit a full paper by March 12, 2023 if you wish to be considered for the KAERA awards.
Once a proposal is accepted and its full paper is submitted, it may be considered for KAERA Awards:
- Only full papers that have not been presented at any professional conferences will be considered for KAERA Awards below:
- Two awards for graduate students ($500 per award)
- One award for an early-career scholar ($500) who earned a doctorate within six years (i.e., after April 2017) at the moment of the presentation.
The 2023 KAERA conference will feature various sessions for graduate students, faculty, and researchers to engage in intellectual and professional dialogues as well as to build social and research networks.
