C. RHEE SCHOLARSHIP

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 17, 2024

Purpose:

The Korean-American Educational Research Association (KAERA) is proud to announce the C. Rhee Scholarship Program, designed to support the professional development of graduate students, early career scholars, and practitioners in the fields of Adult Education, Lifelong Learning, and Workforce Development. This scholarship offers financial assistance to cover travel costs for attending the KAERA annual meeting scheduled for April 10, 2024, in Philadelphia. By providing this support, the C. Rhee Scholarship Program seeks to encourage participation in KAERA’s activities and foster a vibrant community of scholars committed to advancing educational research and practices.

Recipients of this scholarship are anticipated to take an active part in the KAERA annual meeting, where their scholarships will be formally acknowledged. The experience is designed to be transformative, offering not just monetary support but also valuable mentoring and networking opportunities to catalyze professional and academic advancement.

We encourage all eligible scholars and practitioners who are passionate about making significant contributions to the fields of educational research to apply for these opportunities. The program represents KAERA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of scholars and practitioners in the areas of focus: Adult Education, Lifelong Learning, and Workforce Development.

Scholarships:

Two awards, each worth $500, are available to help cover expenses for attending the 2024 KAERA meeting. The recipients must attend the 2024 KAERA meeting to receive a stipend for conference-related costs, such as a conference registration fee, food, and transportation.

Eligibility:

An applicant should meet the following criteria:

1.      Current member of KAERA (https://www.k-aera.org/member_ship/);

2.      Those who meet one of the following criteria:

·        Doctoral student whose research interests are in one or more of the following areas: adult education, lifelong learning, and workforce development.

·        Junior faculty, post-doctorate scholar, or practitioner within 6 years of receiving a doctoral degree (i.e., the applicants for the 2024 scholarship must receive their doctoral degree in 2018 or later) – the practitioner in adult education, lifelong learning, or workforce development (for instance, professionals who work in state or federal government agencies, non-profit organizations, grant writing or sponsoring organizations, community-based organizations, professionals in adult/higher/workforce education).

3.      Agreement to register and attend the 2024 KAERA meeting (i.e., applicants must register for the 2024 KAERA conference at https://www.k-aera.org/kaera2024_registration/).

Application:

The information about this KAERA Scholars Program, along with the application form, is attached. The information is also accessible on the KAERA website. To apply, please submit the following materials:

a.      Completed application form, including a signature from your advisor or supervisor.

b.     Curriculum vitae limited to a maximum of 3 pages.

c.      Statement describing research/professional interests and current research/work projects (a maximum of 2 pages, single-spaced statement).

Please combine these three application materials into a single PDF file for submission. This compiled document should be sent electronically to the Chair of the KAERA C. Rhee Scholarship Committee, Dr. Junghwan Kim, at j-kim@tamu.edu by the deadline of March 17, 2024.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the application is complete and that it is received by the due date. Please submit your packet within a reasonable timeframe to avoid the application not being received due to any technical issues involving e-mail communications.

Selection:

The KAERA Scholars Program Committee will review submissions focusing on academic/practical excellence and the financial need of the applicants. Preference will be given to candidates who clearly demonstrate (a) the contribution of their research and practices to the field of adult education, lifelong learning, and workforce development and (b) how their research and work align with and support the objectives and mission of KAERA, as detailed on the KAERA website. Your statement of interest and application form must clearly articulate these aspects.
